Spied: Maruti Suzuki Swift facelift

In keeping with the trend of the hatchback segment, Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer is working on a facelift for its popular Swift hatchback. The Swift has been one of the best sellers for Maruti over a very long period and there are reports that this is the Sports variant, which is expected to launch before the festive season. The car has been spotted at what looks like the manufacturer’s stockyard in Manesar.

The photos clearly show the differentiation between the standard and Sports trim. The changes are miniscule and the only give away is in the front end – where DRLs have been attached to the fog lamp assembly. Other changes noticeable are the presence of a wider bumper grille and a new set of alloy wheel design. No interior shots are provided though we don’t expect to see much change in there. Minor enhancements would include rear parking sensors, electronically foldable ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors), push button start, new upholstery and auto-up feature for driver side window.

Mechanically, everything should be the same under the hood with the familiar choice of 1.2litre K-series petrol and the Fiat sourced 1.3litre MultiJet diesel engine. The rear sees the addition of a disc brake in to the mix.

Exterior changes are far from being radical.

These photos suggest that the car is ready and will be launched soon. Once in the market it will face stiff competition from the Honda Jazz, Fiat Punto Evo, Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and the upcoming Tata Bolt. Price for the Swift Sports is expected to be in the range of 5 to 7 lakh rupees (ex-showroom).
