Bentley the high-end luxury car maker will be unveiling the Mulsanne Speed, which it claims is the fastest ultra-luxury sedan in the world. The company’s fastest and most powerful sedan is priced at 2,52,200 pounds (Rs-2,50,30,579) in the UK. Deliveries are expected to commence by end of this year or early next year.
The car retains the overall shape of the Mulsanne but with some subtle changes. A dark tint finish can be seen on the Matrix grilles, bumper grilles and wing vents. This particular treatment is also present on the big round headlights and the “floating ellipse” designed taillights as well. 21-inch bespoke wheels and twin rifle exhausts lend a sporty trait to the sedan. This car for the first time gets a “directional style wheel with a design handed for the right or left side of the car.” Four new colours have been added to the palette – Spectre, Candy Red, Camel and Marlin.
The interior is opulent and features a two-tone finish with diamond quilted seats and door trims. Coin finish to the interior door handles, “organ stop” climate control and a knurled gear lever seem to be in harmony with the drilled alloy sports pedals. An optional Piano Black veener is on offer with carbon-fibre inlays and a totally new Tamo Ash veener is also introduced with the Mulsanne Speed.
The 6.8litre, twin-turbo V8 has been re-engineered to provide better fuel efficiency and more importantly, more power. This engine has the performance of 530 horses with a pulling power at an insane 1100Nm on tap from just 1750rpm. The ZF 8-speed automatic transfers all this rubber-shredding performance to the rear wheels. The result? 0-100kmph in a blazing 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 190mph(305kmph). Brake setup consists of 400mm discs at the front and 370mm at the rear. Thanks to the cylinder deactivation technology, This V8 can turn in to a V4 during light load giving the Mulsanne Speed a claimed combined efficiency figure of 6.8kmpl. Bentley says that its newest offering is meeting EU6 regulations with a carbon emission figure of 342g/km.
The Mulsanne Speed is all about outright performance and in view of this, the car gets an “S” mode which maintains the engine speed above 2000rpm thus facilitating instantaneous performance “ from the twin-turbos. The Sport mode gives the car agility and better steering dynamics by stiffening up the air suspension providing greater feedback and accuracy.
Connectivity and entertainment is well-taken care of by a 14-speaker sound system with radio, Bluetooth, DVD and USB compatibility. 60GB of storage space is available to store all the video and music files as is a dedicated onboard Wi-Fi for seamless connectivity.
