Hero MotoCorp unveils “Garden Factory” in Rajasthan

Hero MotoCorp Ltd (HMCL) has completed work on its fourth plant located at Neemrana in Rajasthan just over a year after commencing construction. The cost of building this “Garden Factory” as HMCL calls it is a staggering 1050 crore rupees. This is the first example of a manufacturing facility being erected with the ‘green concept’ at its centre and will also serve as a basis for other plants to follow in the future.

Pawan Munjal, vice chairman, CEO and MD of HMCL, had this comment to share about his company’s latest establishment, “It is a momentous occasion for us as we synergise environment and cutting-edge technology to unveil our fourth manufacturing unit, which is a garden of health and productivity, where we don’t only manufacture products but also nurture life. We believe in giving back to the environment as much as we take from it. And that is why Hero has kept the ’green concept’ in focus while building this ‘Garden Factory’.”

The ‘green concept’ seems pretty evident here!

Several features like efficient building envelope, big foot air handlers and optimization of water and energy will enable the plant to achieve the company’s environmental objectives. This site has an initial production capacity of 7.5 lakh units per annum, which when added to the other three plants located at Haridwar, Gurgaon and Dharuhera gives HMCL a combined production capacity of 7.65 million units per annum. This shows that the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer by volume is well on its way to meet its target of 12 million units annually by 2020.

This plant is state-of-the-art and goes along with the sustainable theme too.

Apart from the plant a Global Parts Centre (GPC) also constructed along the ‘green concept’ will mark its debut. This GPC is fully automated with minimum human intervention to maximize productivity. It has automated – packing and sorting system, storage and retrieval system and online tracking as well, through Warehouse Management System (WMS). The GPC will play a crucial role for a company looking to double its annual turnover to Rs-3000 crore in the next 2-3 years.

At the outset, this new plant will manufacture the range of HMCL’s motorcycles and scooters but after some time it will likely be utilized to manufacture high-end products in the company’s portfolio. Two more plants are expected to take shape in the states of Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh soon. We will keep you informed as soon as something new pops up.
