Replacement for Tata Indica coming next year

Tata Motors is reportedly working on a compact car codenamed the XO or Kite. This car will serve as the replacement for the long standing Indica hatchback. Our friends at Autocar India have said that this car will sit below the to-be-launched Bolt hatchback and will enter the markets possibly during the second half of next year.

Tata Kite or XO

This will be one of the most stylish hatchbacks in the country when launched.

The Kite will be based on the Indica and will sport a very modern exterior taking cues from both the Bolt hatchback and Zest sedan. This car is expected to take the design of the company to another level altogether; as there are indications that elements from the Nexon compact SUV concept will also be seen here.

The interiors not expected to be as radical as the body owing to sourcing of parts from other products in Tata’s portfolio, which might include seats and steering wheel. As the car will be based on the Indica expect the successor to play on the strengths of that car which definitely includes a roomy cabin and generous boot capacity.

Expect the cabin and luggage space to be class leading.

The XO or Kite will get all-new petrol and diesel engines with future models running on alternate fuels like LPG and CNG. Petrol will likely be a 1.2litre unit and a 1.05litre, three-pot engine will power the diesel variant generating output figures of 64bhp and 142Nm. Transmission will be a 5-speed manual with Tata also jumping on to the AMT bandwagon for entry level hatchbacks with this car.

Once launched, the Kite will slug it out with Hyundai i10, Maruti Celerio, Maruti Wagon R and Chevrolet Beat among others.
