Toyota India has been working on the 2016 model of its popular Innova MPV. The car is expected to be unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo. Innova for long has been the best-selling model in Toyota’s Indian lineup despite facing stiff competition from all sides. A video has been uploaded by Mr.Sanjay Rao on YouTube showing the car undergoing a test run.
At first look, the new Innova seems to have gained length especially from the C to D pillar area. This means that the rear most seat passengers will get more room and will also make the whole cabin a lot roomier than before.
As far as the appearance goes, the whole body structure closely resembles the current generation. The camouflage does not give away much, but from what we can see, the grille and headlights have been redesigned. The face overall has a more aggressive and masculine appeal owing to the imposing three-slat grille. The headlights look more sharp edged and also get LED DRLs. Small circular fog lamps can also be seen placed a bit higher than usual. The side profile remains unchanged. Posterior is a different story, featuring revised – bumpers, tail lamp assembly and the rear door. The most striking aspect of the rump is the window and sloping roofline which give out a perception of space and airiness.
Powering the next-gen Innova will be an all-new diesel engine with better fuel efficiency and emission figures. It has also been reported that an automatic transmission will likely be introduced for the first time and that too with the diesel variant.
Competition for the new Innova will be cut-throat with cars such as Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda Mobilio and Chevrolet Enjoy fighting for market share. The MPV is expected to be priced competitively between the Rs-9-15 lakh bracket. Do you think the new Innova will be able to keep up or leave the opposition behind?
