Maruti Suzuki working on a sportier Ciaz

Maruti Suzuki’s Ciaz has finally cracked the mid-size segment sedan code. The latest offering from India’s largest automobile company has dethroned Honda’s City to become the new king. The car outsold its Japanese rival by 1225 units in October. Maruti though, know that they have a tough fight ahead especially with Honda ramping up production at its Tapukara plant by adding a second shift.

The Ciaz has captured the top spot in the first month since launch

Maruti will be launching a sports version of the Ciaz, which will occupy top slot in the model range and will likely follow the same treatment given to the Swift RS. By that, I mean a body kit and a distinctive paint job, don’t expect any performance here.

The Sport version will in all probability be called the Ciaz RS.

The exterior will get a front spoiler and faux diffuser at the rear along-with a wing mounted on the boot lid. Side skirts will be added to the side view and the changes will be rounded off by a dull gray / matt finish to the 16-inch alloys. Interiors see some improvements being planned in the form of SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and aux-in, USB and Bluetooth compatibility. The cabin is likely to get a better feel with the inclusion of sports seats wrapped in premium covers and illuminated door sills.

Engines will remain the same and won’t get any tweaks to boost performance. This sporty variant will get the highly fuel efficient (pun intended) 1.4 litre petrol and 1.3 litre diesel engines coupled either to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. At present, the Ciaz range starts from Rs-6.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
