Mercedes-Benz India has launched the 2015 model of its popular, fast-selling C-Class sedan. This launch caps a great year for the Stuttgart based manufacturer which has launched a record number of vehicles for the Indian market. The new C-Class has been priced at Rs 40.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), only marginally higher than the previous generation.
The car has received exterior revisions giving it an overall elegant and more premium appeal. The appearance is somewhat similar to the top-rung S-Class both at the front and back. The face is adorned with LED headlights (featuring Intelligent Light System) and twin-slat grille, air intakes getting a dash of chrome. The sides bear nothing new apart from the 17-inch alloy wheels. The posterior again reminds one of the S-Class with reworked tail-lights, bumper and twin exhaust pipes covered in chrome.
The interiors have also been updated with new features to enhance creature comforts, starting with leather upholstery for the electrically adjustable seats. The most visible element of the dashboard is the 8.4-inch COMAND infotainment system accessible through a touchpad. Ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof and three-zone auto climate control provide a relaxed and calm experience in the cabin. A 13-speaker Burmester audio system belts out all your favourite tunes with high levels of fidelity.
With regards to engine, only the petrol variant (C200) is offered this time and that too will be coming in as CBU. Local production and always high-on-demand diesel variant will be available by next year. The petrol mill is the 2.0 litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged block producing 181bhp and 300Nm of torque. The familiar 7-speed dual clutch transmission with paddle shifters help this car accelerate from 0-100kmph in a claimed 7.3 seconds, with top speed restricted to 235kmph. Fuel efficiency is pegged at 14.74kmpl.
The C200 has MRA (Mercedes Rear wheel drive Architecture) underpinnings but weighs a 100 kgs less than the 2014 model. It still has an 80 mm longer wheelbase affording the 2015 C200 a more spacious cabin. With the launch of this car, Mercedes is sure to see a surge in sales volumes of this already hit model. Competition is fierce though, consisting of rivals such as the Audi A4 and BMW 3-Series.
