Honda Motorcycles & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has launched the super-sized Goldwing GL1800 to customers in India. It is available in two variants: Gold Wing Audio Comfort and Gold Wing Airbag. The Audio Comfort variant is an anniversary edition built to commemorate four decades of the legendary cruiser and boasts of a dual tone Candy Prominence Red finish; it is priced at Rs 28.5 lakh. The other model is the top-of-the-line Airbag trim which will retail at Rs 31.5 lakh and comes in a Pearl Glare White shade. All prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi.
The Goldwing is renowned for its touring abilities and superior comfort on ultra-long rides. The frame is made of aluminium rendering it lightweight and features a twin-spar layout, with a single-sided Pro-Arm swingarm giving this cruiser good stability and handling response. Long rides demand more luggage capacity and with 150 litres of storage space owing to large panniers, the Goldwing takes care of that as well. This motorcycle is built to be cruised in all-day-long. The heated grips, adjustable heated seats, and foot warming system ensure that the rider is comfortable even during trips taken in cold weather.
Safety aspect is addressed by Honda’s combo braking system with ABS and even airbags (in the top variant). An 80 Watt, 6-speaker, surround system takes care of your entertainment needs and is iPod and USB compatible. Systems such as electronic reverse gear take the bike out of maneuvering and parking in tight spaces and cruise control is a feature especially useful on long trips.
This massive 420 kg bike is powered by a horizontally opposed, 1.8-litre, six-cylinder engine producing 167Nm of torque which is relayed to the wheels through a 5-speed gearbox.
Over here, this behemoth of cruisers will square-off with other heavyweights like the Triumph Thunderbird Storm LT and Harley-Davidson Street Glide.
