Tata’s much-awaited hatchback – Bolt, will be launching early next year. The small car is the next vehicle to follow the new design theme established by the company’s newly-launched and doing-well ‘Zest’ compact sedan. The hatchback also shares the same underpinnings as its sedan sibling and is also the second model to enter the market courtesy of Tata Motor’s Horizonext strategy.
With the launch just some days away, the company has started accepting online bookings for its newest offering on their website. The Bolt can now be booked online for a sum of just Rs 11,000. The Bolt is available in both petrol and diesel guise. The petrol is powered by a turbocharged Revotron 1.2T engine producing 89 bhp and 140 Nm of torque. This car also comes with three driving modes as seen in the Zest, namely – Sport, City and Eco. The diesel version is powered by the 1.3 litre Quadrajet engine churning out 74 bhp of torque and a respectable 190 Nm of tugging force. Both the power units will be routing power to the wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Bolt is targeted at youths and has a fresh and attractive design to allure them. Tata has said that the Bolt will feature quality materials in the cabin and a host of goodies to make it a valuable proposition. The top-end model will get infotainment systems by Harman Kardon, courtesy of the Indian manufacturers tie-up with them; MapMyIndia has also collaborated with the auto major to provide navigation services.
Will the car will be able to achieve success in the highly competitive hatchback segment? It pushes all the right buttons, but only time will tell.
