Hyundai India has launched the i20 Active in India keeping in tune with the competition who, have also released ‘cross’ models based on their hatchbacks. The i20 Active is based on the Elite i20 and will come in both petrol and diesel variants. Prices start at Rs 6.38 lakh for the petrol and Rs 7.63 lakh for the diesel. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
In tradition with the earlier crossovers, the i20 Active gets matte grey pastic mouldings at the base of the car, faux skid plates, diamond cut alloys and roof rails. Other modifications include front and rear bumpers, round fog lamps, projector headlamp units with LED DRLs, revised grille, and a black C-pillar mimicking those on the Elite model.
Interiors are familiar to the hatchback but come in a different colour combination. Lighter body colours will come with blue and black dual-tone cabin, while darker exterior colours will beget an all-black cabin with orange accents.
The familiar 1.2 litre petrol and 1.4 litre diesel engines will do duty under the hood. The petrol unit makes 82 bhp and 115 Nm of torque, it has been re-tuned to deliver better bottom-end response same as the diesel. Diesel produces a slightly better 89 bhp of power and an impressive 220 Nm of torque. Petrol is mated to a five-speed manual whereas the oil burner is married to a six-speed manual transmission. ARAI certified fuel efficiency figures are 17.19 kmpl and 21.19 kmpl for the petrol and diesel respectively.
