Bajaj Motorcycles today launched two motorcycles of the new Adventure Sports series. The bikes will be called the Pulsar AS150 and Pulsar AS200. These motorcycles have been offered at an introductory price of Rs 79,000 and Rs 91,550 (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively.
Think of them as Triumph Tigers for the masses. These bikes come with a semi-fairing and an extended windscreen. The smaller capacity bike gets single disc brake at the front and drum at the rear. The AS200 on the other hand gets single discs at both ends. Notable, is the non-availability of ABS on both variants, even as options.
Getting to the engines, the AS150 has been bestowed with a 149.5cc, four-stroke, air-cooled engine producing 17bhp at 9,000rpm, and a peak torque of 13Nm hitting at a relatively low 7,500rpm. These figures make it the most powerful 150cc motorcycle in India. The AS200 gets the same powerhouse currently doing duty in the Pulsar 200NS. In other words, it’s a 200cc, four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 23bhp at 9,500rpm and 18Nm of torque at 8,000rpm. This engine is coupled to a six-speed transmission.
Both bikes boast of a 12-litre fuel tank and have telescopic shocks at the front and Nitrox mono shocks at the rear. Ground clearance is 167mm for the AS200 and 170mm for the AS150; this clearance seems to be consistent with the adventure loving nature that this bike is projected to have. Similar paint schemes are on offer and the duo can be bought in in red, black and blue body colours.
Speaking on the occasion Eric Vas, president – motorcycles business, Bajaj Auto Ltd, said, “The Pulsar Adventure Sport series will be a delight to young bikers who want to fulfil their need of daily city riding, while at the same time desire to explore our vast and incredible outdoors over the weekends. These new generation bikes are a winning combination of easy handling in traffic and raw brutal power when one needs it. The AS200 and AS150 truly define our customer’s spirit that adventure never stops.”
