Mahindra has launched a facelift of its cheetah-design inspired XUV500. The car has been priced at Rs 11.12 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the base W4 variant. W4, W6, W8, W8 AWD, W10 and W10 AWD are the trims in which the new offering will be available. The W10 is a new introduction and the AWD variant tops the lineup with an asking price of Rs 15.85 lakh.
The exterior has been tweaked to make it more contemporary. Changes include the front grille with chrome inserts, revised front bumper, fog lamps with chrome accents, modified bonnet, cheetah “tear duct-like” black accents, paw-styled door handles and redesigned alloy wheels. Headlights consist of projector units with slick-looking LED light guides.
The interiors have also received their fair share of updates. A new black and beige tone defines the interior as does the blue mood lighting. Beige leather seats up the comfort factor alongwith the automatic dual climate control. A bigger 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes care of your infotainment needs featuring GPS with USB, Bluetooth, iPod and aux-in connectivity. Equipped with the company’s Blue Sense technology, it lets you control audio and climate control functions through your mobile. The infotainment system also supports voice commands and SMS readouts.
Some of the other features offered with the new XUV500 are push button start, six-way power-adjustable driver seat and electrically operated ORVMs, passive keyless entry, reverse parking camera with dynamic assist and aluminium pedals.
Under the hood scenario remains the same. Power comes from the familiar 2.2-litre turbocharged m-Hawk engine producing 140bhp and 330 Nm of torque, coupled with a six-speed manual transmission allowing the XUV500 a 0-60 kmph time of 5.4 seconds. Fuel efficiency, Mahindra claims, has improved to 16 kmpl mainly due to the engine being intelligently switched off when not required.
Speaking at the national launch of the XUV500 yesterday, Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra mentioned, “The XUV500 has pushed the boundaries for Mahindra since its launch, on the fronts of technology, capability and brand. More so, it established the foundations for the development of an entirely new generation of vehicles from Mahindra. Today as we launch the New Age XUV500, we have enhanced the finesse and driving experience while retaining the DNA of the Cheetah inspired XUV500. I firmly believe that the New Age XUV500 will reaffirm our customers’ faith in Mahindra’s abilities to create world class products”.
