Eicher Polaris, a JV between Eicher Motors and Polaris Industries has launched the Multix. The Multix is a personal utility vehicle aimed at the independent businessman. It is available in two variants and four colour schemes. Prices start at Rs 2.32 lakh for the base AX+ variant and go up to Rs 2.72 lakh (ex-showroom, Jaipur) for the top-end MX model.
The vehicle can seat five people and carry 480 litres of luggage, which can be extended to 1,918 litres. It looks like a vehicle built for function and not to please the eye. And it succeeds at it, the boxy styling interspersed with sharp edges looks compact and not at all appealing. But as mentioned earlier, it is more focused towards function rather than form.
The Multix is fitted with an all-independent Pro-Ride suspension and is also suitable for off-road use (courtesy of Polaris’ expertise in the field) with a good 335 mm of ground clearance.
Engine powering this four-wheeler is a small 511 cc diesel engine that has been borrowed from Greaves Cotton. The engine is mated to an indigenously developed four-speed manual transmission and is claimed to give 28.45 kmpl.
A standout feature of the Multix is a power-take-off port, which the company calls ‘X-Port’. This port is capable of dispensing 3 KW of power, which can be used to power water pumps, homes, refrigerators and even power equipments.
