Hyundai India has named its upcoming SUV as the Creta. This small SUV was previously known as the iX25. Dealers have now started accepting bookings with the token amount varying between INR 40,000 to 50,000. The Creta is Hyundai’s challenger to the Renault Duster and the soon-to-be-launched Maruti S-Cross.
On the looks front, the Creta is a much better looker than the competition. It has a bold and aggressive face that conveys the purposeful SUV look. A three slat chrome grille, projector headlamps, vertically positioned fog lamps, sharply creased bonnet and an upright nose complete the face profile. The sides get black lower body cladding and a choice of either 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear of the SUV will mostly feature a sleek tail lamp assembly, tailgate spoiler and skid plate; complimenting the one at front.
Not much has been revealed about the interior, but we know for a fact that it is based on the i20 and a lot of parts are shared with it. We expect the interior to be similar to the one found in the Elite i20, which won’t be a bad thing at all. So, a premium and upmarket looking interior with chrome accents, dual tone dashboard and sat nav on high-end models are plausible predictions.
Engines will be derived from the Verna sedan. That means a choice of 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines. The 1600 cc diesel is most likely, considering the size of the SUV and torque figures it’s capable of. Max power is 128 bhp and peak torque is a modest 260 Nm. Transmission of choice will be a five speed manual and an automatic is also expected to debut sooner or later, considering that the demand for them is on the rise.
The Creta will join the Santa Fe SUV in Hyundai’s Indian lineup. Hyundai anticipates the Creta to be a volume seller and is hoping to gain a lot of market share with this offering. More details are expected at launch and we will be there to update you. So stay tuned to AutoWire!
