Jaguar’s first-ever SUV, the F-Pace will be unveiled at the upcoming 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show that will begin on September 17. Deliveries to European markets is expected to begin by early 2016 with production taking place at Solihull, UK. India will also see the introduction of the SUV by late 2016.
The F-Pace was first previewed by the C-X17 concept shown at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new SUV will be built on Jaguar’s Lightweight Aluminium Architecture that imparts lightness and even more stiffness to the body.
The F-Pace will borrow technology from the F-Type and even its name shares the “F” with the sports car. Jaguar has stated that the SUV will not have any compromises and be a true Jaguar with the driving dynamics that people expect from the marque.
Agility will be ensured by double wishbone suspension at the front and integral link suspension at the rear. Further dynamism is obtained from the F-Type-derived Torque Vectoring system that works in conjunction with the all-wheel drivetrain. What this system does is that, it enhances cornering ability by applying controlled braking to the inside wheel while simultaneously providing more power to the outside wheel.
Jaguar says that electric power-assisted steering has been developed with learnings taken from the F-Type. It has been calibrated to respond to even the slightest inputs and give greater feedback.
Powering the F-Pace will be the new Ingenium range of four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines. A 3.0-liter supercharged V6 unit taken from the F-Type will also be found beneath the hood and a bonkers 5.0-liter supercharged V8 is also reported to be under consideration.
