Renault has announced that its entry-level hatch and Maruti Alto rival, the Kwid has clocked an amazing figure of 50,000 bookings in under a month. The butch-looking small car was launched on September 24.
The Kwid is available in six trims: Standard, RXE, RXE(O), RXL, RXT and RXT(O). Renault’s latest offering starts at an affordable price of INR 2.57 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The carmaker has managed a localization level of 98% in the Kwid, resulting in competitive pricing. The car has dimensions of 3,679 mm, 1,579 mm and 1,478 mm in length, width and height respectively. It also has a wheelbase of 2,422 mm with a ground clearance of 180 mm and seating space for five occupants.
Powering the Kwid is a 799cc, three cylinder petrol engine producing 54 PS of max power and 72 Nm of peak torque at 4386 rpm. Power is transferred to the wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. Stopping power is provided by disc and drum brakes at the front and rear respectively. The Kwid is the most fuel-efficient petrol vehicle in India with an average fuel consumption of 25.17 km/l as certified by ARAI.
The manufacturer also says that it is expanding its sales and service network presently covering 80% of the country. Currently, it has 180 sales and service facilities but plans to ramp it up to 280 by next year.
