Legendary off-road vehicle brand ‘Jeep’ is expected to start its Indian journey by the middle of this month. In preparation for its arrival, the automaker has launched its Indian website that showcases three of its models. These are the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Now we discuss these models headed for our streets in detail.
2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee:
The 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets the signature seven-slot grille that is flanked by Bi-Xenon headlamps with LED DRLs. The front lower portion features small fog lamps and silver-finished outline for the bumper grille. The side profile comes with square-ish wheel arches with the rear getting LED tail lamps and tailgate-mounted spoiler.
The interior has room for five occupants with seats upholstered in Nappa leather. The instrument cluster is a 7-inch TFT multi-view customizable unit; while infotainment needs are taken care of by the Uconnect system that can be operated through an 8.4-inch touchscreen display with navigation support.
Jeep will likely bring in the top-end Summit and Limited trim into India. Power for this SUV comes from a 3.6-liter V6 petrol engine that is offered as standard. This unit pumps out 295 hp and 352 Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a Quadra-Drive II 4X4 system and an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT:
This is the high-performance variant of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and is tuned by their SRT (Street & Racing Technology) performance division.
This SUV is all about performance, which is available in copious amounts thanks to a 6.4-liter Hemi V8. This gasoline engine pushes out 475 hp and an enormous 630 Nm of torque. Power is transferred to the wheels through the 8-speed automatic gearbox that also helps the sports utility to cover the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in just 4.8 seconds. The strenuous task of stopping this high-performance behemoth is handled by 15-inch rotors with six-piston calipers at the front and 13.8-inch rotors with four-piston calipers at the rear.
On the outside, the Grand Cherokee SRT has a blackened front end that features the front and bumper grille in gloss black finish. The Bi-Xenon headlamps also receive the same treatment while the sides are made distinctive with the usage of 20-inch “Goliath” polished aluminum wheels.
2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited:
Last but not the least is the iconic Wrangler. Jeep is bringing in the Wrangler Unlimited four-door version likely in the guise of the Sahara variant. This off-roader is powered by a 2.8-liter diesel engine capable of 197 hp and 460 Nm mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This specification is unlike that of the standard model which derives power from a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 having output figures of 285 hp and 352 Nm of peak torque.
