Mahindra KUV100 (spelt as KUV ‘one double O’) has been launched at a starting price of INR 4.42 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). The compact SUV is offered in a total of seven trims – from bottom to top – which are K2, K2+, K4, K4+, K6, K6+ and K8.
The exterior of the Mahindra KUV100 features a lot of curves and creases along with muscular elements that give it a distinct visual appeal. The front end gets a slim six-tooth grille flanked by sunglass-inspired wraparound headlamps with L-shaped LED DRLs. The front bumper houses the two-portion radiator grille that also comes with fog lamps embellished with chrome accents.
The striking features of the lateral view are square wheel arches, spider-design alloy wheels, clenched-fist inspired ORVMs, lower plastic body cladding and rear door handles mounted on the pillars (similar to the Chevrolet Beat). The flared wheel arches and muscular haunches add to the aggression. The rear bears a sporty look courtesy of the tailgate-mounted spoiler and dual-tone rear bumper. Other striking design detail is the crease above the double-barrel tail lamps (that look like eyebrows) and chrome surrounds for the rear fog lamps.
The interior of the KUV100 can hold up to six occupants (five-seater optional), which is a segment first. This has been made possible by accommodating an extra bench seat at the front. The transmission tunnel is absent and the gear lever has been shifted to the dashboard. The parking brake takes its place at the base of the center console. The dashboard itself has a floating design and is finished with dual-tone colours. The instrument cluster is a two-pod analog unit with an easy to read display. The three-spoke steering wheel features bolsters for better grip and also enhances convenience with controls mounted for telephony and audio functions. Mahindra says that the seats have been endowed with premium quality fabric upholstery.
Features that come with the TUV100 are follow-me-home headlamps, electrically-powered ORVMs, remote keyless entry, cooled glove box, mood lighting in door handles, LED roof lamp and audio system with USB and aux-in compatibility.
The compact SUV also comes with a raft of safety features. ABS and EBD is standard on all variants while dual airbags are standard on the top-spec K8 grade, and optional on all others. Occupant protection is further increased by systems such as ISOFIX rear seat child mount, speed sensing auto door locks, auto door unlocking during a crash, dual rear fog lamps and automatic hazard light on panic braking.
Under the hood, the Mahindra KUV100 comes with a choice of all-new mFalcon range of petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine is the mFalcon G80 1.2-liter unit producing 82 bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque, whereas the diesel is the D75 mill also displacing 1.2 liters with output figures of 77 bhp / 190 Nm. Mahindra says that both engines have been tuned for “excellent low-end torque” and are mated only to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Fuel efficiency figures are 18.15 km/l and 25.32 km/l for the petrol and diesel respectively.
The KUV100 will be manufactured at the automaker’s Chakan facility and comes in seven exterior colours – Flamboyant Red, Fiery Orange, Aquamarine, Pearl White, Dazzling Silver, Midnight Black and Designer Grey. Mahindra’s smallest SUV can also be booked online with a deposit of INR 10,000 exclusively through carandbike.com.
