Jaguar India has launched the all-new Jaguar XE at Auto Expo 2016. The sedan has a starting price of INR 39.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and will come in two trims – the entry-level Pure and top-end Portfolio; the car will be available in Jaguar showrooms by the end of February.
The exterior of the Jaguar XE exudes a sporty and streamlined look. The standout design features at the front are the sculpted bonnet, sharply raked windshield and signature J-shaped LED DRLs. The flanks come with a chrome fender vent, sporty alloys and a rising waistline with the rear completed with wraparound LED tail lights and a subtle boot-lid spoiler. The XE is based on an all-new aluminium intensive architecture that keeps the sedan light, thus improving performance and handling.
On the inside, there is the three-spoke multifunction steering wheel inspired by the F-Type. The seats are covered in fine-grain leather and are well bolstered offering comfort and grip during spirited driving. The seat backs are scooped out at the back thus liberating more legroom for the rear passengers. The cabin feels premium owing to the presence of high quality materials and gloss-black along with aluminum embellishments decorating the cabin.
The instrument cluster sports two large analogue dials with a MID screen in the centre conveying essential information. The majority of the centre console is occupied by the large 20.32 cms (8.0-inch) touchscreen infotainment system running Jaguar’s InControl Touch software. Standard features include power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, intelligent start-stop and cruise control.
The Jaguar XE is a performance sedan and has many systems onboard that improve its dynamic characteristics. These are torque vectoring by braking – a system that applies light braking to the inner wheels for better cornering, thus reducing understeer, All Surface Progress Control (ASPC) – helps the XE cope with low-traction surfaces, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) – is a driver assistance system that kicks in when the system detects that the car is unresponsive to driver inputs; also takes appropriate measures to regain control by counteracting understeer or oversteer.
An all-petrol engine lineup gives motive power to the XE. There is only one petrol engine, a 2.0-litre inline-four turbocharged unit that is offered in two tunes of 197 hp and 240 hp. Both engine variants are mated exclusively to the 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox sending power to the rear wheels. Jaguar claims a class-leading 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 6.8 seconds for the 240 hp version.
The entry-level Jaguar can be brought in any of the seven exterior colours which are: Dark Sapphire, Polaris White, Blue Fire, Odyssey Red, Italian Racing Red, Rhodium Silver and Ultimate Black. Assembly of the Jaguar XE will take place locally at Jaguar’s manufacturing facility in Pune.
